Abstract:In order to study the molecular characteristics of rotavirus infection in adults with acute gastroenteritis in Shanghai, 2010-2013, the stool specimens collected in the period of June 2010 to December 2013 from 1 554 adult patients with acute gastroenteritis in Changning District were subjected to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for rotavirus detection. The results showed that the average age of all patients was (46.19±15.59) years old. Among them, 691 were male and 863 were female. Rotavirus was detected in 200 cases, with a detection rate of 12.87%. The detection rate of rotavirus was 9.15% in the patients aged 18-39, 15.58% in those aged 40-59, 15.16% in those aged 60-79, and 18.57% in those aged ≥80. The G9 subtype (29.82%) and P8 subtype (77.19%) were the most common genotypes in group A rotavirus, and G9P[8] was the most common GP combination. The results suggest that rotavirus infection in adults with acute gastroenteritis is more popular in middle aged and elderly people.
