Abstract Fusobacterium nucleatum, a commensal bacterium in human oral cavity could cause opportunistic infections in certain conditions. Recently, the relationship between Fusobacterium nucleatum and colorectal cancer (CRC) has become a research focus. Clinical studies revealed that Fusobacterium nucleatum is implicated in CRC. Further studies on animals have proved that Fusobacterium nucleatum can promote the onset and progression of CRC and chemoresistance to treatments. This paper summarizes evidence for the association of Fusobacterium nucleatum with CRC and provides a comprehensive view of current mechanisms for the association.
