Zika virus (ZIKV) is an arbovirus of genus Flavivirus, family Flaviviridae, and its infection causes an illness known as Zika virus disease. The disease is associated with mild fever and hospitalization of infected individuals is rare. Studies indicated that Zika virus infection may be associated with Guillain-Barre syndrome and congenital microcephaly. The detailed mechanisms are under investigation.
